Jussie Smollett 'Happy' After 'Special Forces' Exit: Hate Crime Controversy & Life After Jail (2025)

Jussie Smollett, the star of 'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test,' has had a remarkable journey since his controversial hate crime incident six years ago. Despite the ups and downs, he remains resilient and is embracing new challenges.

In a recent interview, Smollett opened up about his experience on the FOX series, where he faced a medical withdrawal due to a lung infection. While initially disappointed, he quickly found solace in the luxurious accommodations and a delicious meal after his desert ordeal.

"At that moment, I embraced the lung infection!" Smollett joked, highlighting his ability to find humor in difficult situations.

Throughout the show, Smollett continued to assert his innocence regarding the 2019 controversy. He reported being a victim of a hate crime, but prosecutors accused him of staging the attack. Despite the legal battle and a guilty verdict, which was later overturned, Smollett maintains his innocence.

"Everyone has an opinion, whether they believe the truth or not. I've come to terms with that because life must go on," he said, reflecting on the public's perception.

Smollett's participation in 'Special Forces' allowed him to step out of his comfort zone and embrace vulnerability. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "I'm happy to be doing cool stuff. It's okay to show your heart."

During the interview, Smollett also discussed Eva Marcille's near-drowning incident and his sister Jurnee Smollett-Bell's potential participation in future seasons.

"Jurnee would dominate! She's a superhero, always kicking and jumping. I know she'd excel, but she won't do it, and neither will I!" he exclaimed, firmly ruling out a return to the show.

When asked about his future plans, Smollett revealed his interest in joining 'Baddies on Zeus,' a competition show, but only as a guest.

"I'm good with my one-time experience on 'Special Forces.' I had a great time, and I'm grateful for the opportunity," he concluded.

'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test' airs Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX, with new episodes available on Hulu the following day.
